Upcoming Events at Glucksman Ireland House at New York University, New York City

The Glucksman Ireland House, as always, will be presenting a unique treasure trove of Irish cultural events. This year, there is one in particular that is a must-see for all members of The Wild Geese.

OCTOBER 16 - NOVEMBER 20
THE PERSONAL IN HISTORY: CONTEMPORARY MEMOIR AND AUTOBIOGRAPHY - A Six-Week Writing Workshop, hosted by Irish wirter and journalist Nuala O'Faolain, author of the acclaimed ARE YOU SOMEBODY: THE ACCIDENTAL MEMOIR OF A DUBLIN WOMAN. Ms O'Faolain will deliver talks on"the craft and construction of memoir texts." There will be readings from the works of Eavan Boland, Noel Browne, Dermot Healy, Edna O'Brien, and Frank McCourt.

NOVEMBER 1 - WEDNESDAY, 7 PM
AIRNEAL NA SAMHNA - A happy Celtic New Year celebration in an evening of traditional Irish music, song, dance, and poetry.

NOVEMBER 10- DECEMBER 31
"IN THEIR OWN WORLD: THE CHILDREN OF
BELFAST AND DERRY." This is an extraordinary black and white photographic exhibition by up and coming photographer, Christina Cahill. Christina is the daughter of members of The Wild Geese, Tom and Susan Cahill. A must-see!

NOVEMBER 16 - Thursday, 6 PM
THE ERNIE O'MALLEY LECTURE SERIES
Dale T. Knobel, president of Denison University and historian, will present "Celtic Exodus: The Famine Irish, Ethnic Stereotypes, and the Cultivation of American Racial Nationalism."
Boston College historian Kevin Kenny will join in the discussion, to be held at the Irving H. Jurow Lecture Hall, Main Building, 100 Washington Square East, Room 101A.

NOVEMBER 30 - Thursday, 7 PM
J. J. Lee, Glucksman Professor of Irish Studies at New York University, presents "Eamon de Valera: A Millennium Perspective."


DECEMBER

DECEMBER 7 - Thursday, 7 PM
AIRNEAL NA NOLLAIG - Padraig O Cearuil starts the holidays off with an evening of traditional music and holiday carols.

DECEMBER 8 - Friday, 6 PM
Film screenings - Presented by Paul Largan, an evening of documentaries and short films from Northern Ireland. To be held at the cantor Film Center, 36 East Eighth Street, Room 101, New York City.


IRISH LANGUAGE CLASSES are conducted by Padraig O Cearuil, a native speaker from Gaoth Dobhair, County Donegal, Irish landuage lecturer at the College of Arts and Science at New York University. These are evening classes and are open to the public. E-mail contact: padraig.ocearuil@nyu.edu
